Jay Harris vs. Ricardo Sandoval: Date, fight time, TV channel and live stream

Jay Harris gets to prove he belongs at the highest level as he tackles touted American, Ricardo Sandoval.

Welshman Jay Harris is desperate to become world champion. After a quiet rise through the pro ranks, Harris burst onto the scene back in 2019 when he emphatically stopped Paddy Barnes in four rounds. The following year, Harris tackled Mexico's heavy-handed Julio Cesar Martinez for the WBC flyweight belt but he lost on points. A win over Sandoval can elevate him back into the title picture.

The talented Californian arrives in Britain as one of America's brightest hopes and he looks certain to provide Harris with a stern test. Backed by Golden Boy, Sandoval possesses a ton of potential and some of that will be realised if he's succesful against Harris.

Quotes

MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton: "We are delighted to be back with a tremendous card later this month which is full of competitive 50-50 fights.

"Jay Harris has been desperate for this fight with Ricardo Sandoval for a while so we are thrilled to be working with Golden Boy so that it is finally here. It is certain to be non-stop action from start to finish and we're hopeful that Jay can get the win and move a step closer to another world title shot.

"The same can be said for Paul Butler. He is on the cusp of another world title shot but knows he can't look past Joseph Agbeko, who has shared the ring with Guillermo Rigondeaux and Abner Mares in his career, and heads into this fight on the back of nine straight victories.

"The fantastic fight between Hosea Burton and Liam Conroy could steal the show, and it's great to see Gary Cully back defending his title after his blistering stoppage win last time out.

"We have some of the best rising stars in action too with Pierce O'Leary and Jordan Reynolds both on the card, plus extremely talented fighters like Tyrone McCullagh, Blane Hyland and Inder Bassi, so it's certain to be a brilliant event on June 25."

Predictions

Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: "Jay Harris has the experience of fighting for a world title under his belt now and that will put him in good stead here. This pair have an identical record, albeit Sandoval possessing four extra KOs. The Californian has stopped his last five foes but the standard of opposition hasn't been fantastic. Harris has just one stoppage in his last five contests, and that sole defeat to Julio Cesar Martinez in 2020. It was a spirited attempt and he has now learnt from the world's best in his division I have faith in Harris to win a competitive fight on points to set up that brilliant all-British bout with Sunny Edwards next."

Background

In the main event, Welsh hero Jay Harris will look to earn another crack at world honours when he goes up against hard-hitting American Ricardo Sandoval in a 12-round final eliminator for the IBF flyweight title, currently held by Sunny Edwards.

The fight was originally scheduled for May 14, but was postponed, however, the reson for this was never supplied. Harris just announced the following message on his social media and that was it: "Unfortunately, my fight on May 14th has been postponed to a later date, new date will be soon, still nothing changes, just a minor blip, couple of days off and we go back at it."

Harris, 30 from Swansea, enjoyed a successful 12 months last year, picking up an impressive points win over Marcel Braithwaite in October, whilst also going the distance with Julio Cesar Martinez in a fantastic effort for the WBC flyweight title in February 2020.

California's Sandoval, just 22-years-old, heads into the bout on the back of five straight knockout wins, including a seventh round stoppage victory over Raymond Tabugon in his last outing, so he will be full of confidence for this one.
