Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant date: UK start time, undercard, live stream and how to watch

The huge super-middleweight unification title fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Caleb Plant is next weekend.

Mexico’s pound-for-pound king Canelo has run through the super-middleweight division like a steam train since returning to 168lbs in December.

Canelo dominated Callum Smith to take his WBA title and win the vacant WBC.

He then battered overmatched mandatory Avni Yildirim in February and stopped Billy Joe Saunders by breaking his eye socket in May.

With the BJS win, Canelo became a three-belt WBA, WBC and WBO champion, needing just the IBF to be fully undisputed.

He will now get the chance to add that strap to his collection when he faces off against fierce rival Plant.

Unbeaten Plant is the IBF champion and beat Caleb Truax in January.

Canelo v Plant: Date and time

This 12-round super-middleweight title fight will take place on Saturday, November 6.

It is being held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As it is being held in America, UK fans can expect the main event to get under way at around 5am on Sunday morning.

The clash will be for Canelo’s WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles and for Plant’s IBF super middleweight title.

Canelo v Plant: What happened at the press conference?

Canelo left Plant with a cut to his face as their first press conference turned violent.

Prior to the start of the media event in Beverly Hills, the pair came nose to nose on the stage and exchanged words.

This went on for about 20 seconds until Plant seemingly said something which seriously offended Canelo.

The Mexican shoved the American, but for some reason no security was close to intervene.

Plant responded by walking back up to Canelo and swinging for him, but boxing’s pound-for-pound king was prepared and ducked underneath.

Canelo fired straight back with a counter left and a right hand before they were finally pulled apart.

After the clash, it could be seen that Canelo’s punch cut Plant under his right eye.

Canelo v Plant: What has been said?

Plant was seen with a plaster over the cut after the press conference and told Showtime: “It’s just a small cut. It’s from my sunglasses. I had sunglasses on.

“So when whatever happened, happened, it just scratched my cheek.”

Canelo later claimed Plant had insulted his mother, prompting him to shove the American.

“You can say whatever you want to me, but not about my mother,” the Mexican pound-for-pound king said.

Plant insisted he had not taken aim at Canelo’s mum and insisted the cut will not put their fight in jeopardy.
